Willie “Sherman” Cooper, Jr. age 77, of Hallandale, FL passed away on August 9, 2023, after a brief illness. Willie was born on October 27, 1945, to the single parentage of Rosa Lee Cooper-Henry, raised by his grandma, Elizabeth Cooper, in Lake City, SC. Willie graduated from Carver High School, in Lake City, SC, the same school where NASA Astronaut Ronald E. McNair had graduated. Note: Every time my family and I have traveled to SC, my dad would make sure to take pictures of the Ronald McNair monument. After Willie had graduated from Carver High, he enlisted in the Army (during the Vietnam War era), later he earned extensive training in Electrical, A/C & Refrigeration.
Willie’s, first FT job was as a Supervisor Electrical Engineer, for DOT (Department of Transportation), overseeing all of South Florida’s Turnpike locations (with his 3-man crew). Later, Willie went on to open and operate his own Electrical, A/C & Refrigeration Company, for several decades. Upon retiring, he enjoyed traveling, plus meeting and talking with a host of his friends (including Mrs. Jean Cook / Owner of Jean Cook Realty in Dania), at the local Dunkin Donuts.
Upon Willie meeting Gracy Taylor Harris, they united in Holy Matrimony in which their union created 3 lovely children.
Willie was predeceased by his grandma, Elizabeth Cooper; His Mother, Rosa Lee Cooper-Henry and His Son, Troy Harris.
He is survived by His Wife: Gracie Cooper, 2 Daughters: Renee Harris-Lockhart (Sylvester – in HL) and Sandra Harris; 8 Grandkids (Craig Smith, Jr., Alexis Lucas, Jamier Lucas, Trenae Harris, Kierra Harris, Troy Harris, Jr. & Helton Harris); 3 Great-grands) Craivan Smith, Jamier Jr., Lucas & Skylar Lucas), plus a host of Nephews and Nieces.
