Thelma May (Taylor) Wallace was a beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, sister-in-law, mother-in-law and grandmother. She is survived by the family of son Hayden Taylor. She is also survived by niece Donna Scott. Ms. Wallace began life as Thelma May Taylor September 15, 1928 In Baltimore, Maryland. She and older sister, Bernice Taylor, were orphaned at an early age and grew to adolescence at the Niles Orphan Home. They were subsequently taken under the care of relatives in Kansas City and St. Louis, Missouri. In October of 1947 Ms. Taylor began work at St. Louis University Medical School as a much respected and skilled lab technician. She worked in the field of cancer research. She held other jobs in her lifetime, however was most devoted to this profession of 25 years. She retired October 20, 1972. Ms. Taylor met Lester Wallace in St. Louis and they were later married in 1950. Lester was an Army soldier. He passed away as a civilian in 1975. Ms. Wallace became the ROCK of the small family based in St. Louis. This family consisted of her, sister Bernice Scott, brother-in-law, Leonard Scott and niece, Donna Mae Scott. Ms. Wallace was often the host of many holiday celebrations and laid out a delicious holiday spread every Thanksgiving and Christmas. Boy could she cook!!! The Scott’s were sent home with enough leftovers to last a week.

Thelma May was an especially devoted aunt to Donna Mae. She insisted that the “May” be incorporated somewhere into the child’s name. When other kids were receiving hula-hoops and frisbees for Christmas and birthdays, Ms. Wallace showered her niece with gifts like books, savings bonds, a desk and typewriter. She took Donna to events that seemed like great adventures and helped expand her niece’s worldview. Ms. Wallace also cared for her grandchildren Liana, Hayden, Diana and Joanna for a short time when they were very young. She was an inspiration.

Ms. Wallace made many close friends in St. Louis. Unfortunately, she out-lived most of the closest. She was always the life of the party and her friends simply loved her. She had a magnetic sense of humor and enjoyed card parties. After her sister and brother-in law passed, Ms. Wallace moved to Florida to be near her niece. The year was 2009. The best characteristics about Ms. Wallace were her immense sense of humor and her great capacity to care for others. If a beggar asked her for money, she would give something without hesitation or judgement. She was a faithful and devoted Christian. Now Heaven is welcoming another angel.
