Mrs. Shirley “Cookie” J. Jones, age 64, of Hollywood, Florida, transitioned to eternal life on October 1, 2023, in Hollywood, Florida. Shirley Jackson was born on December 25, 1958, in Hollywood, Florida, to the late James and Mary Lee Jackson. She was the 3rd of 5 children and was affectionately known as “Cookie”. She met and fell in love with Vernell (aka Duck) Jones. After 4 years, they wedded in holy matrimony in July of 1981, at the age of 23. Their union brought together 3 children: Keith Johnkins, Damion Johnkins, and Zavaris Jackson. Cookie received her education at BF James elementary in Hallandale Beach Florida, McNicol middle school in Hollywood, Florida, and South Broward High School in Hollywood, Florida. Cookie was a hard and dedicated worker in the community. Throughout her lifetime, she was employed at Atlas Pen and Pencil, Jet Avion, US Postal Ser vice, Broward County School Board and BC Transit. She volunteered as an election official and helped feed the homeless. She was a very giving person and would give her last to those in need. Without hesitation, she would put her personal needs aside to take care of others. Cookie was a faithful member of the New Macedonia Baptist Church for over 40 years, where she volunteered for numerous committees and served as church treasurer, member of the choir, Deaconess, and a member of the Pas tor’s Aid committee. She was also a dedicated member of the International Denominational Deaconess as well as a member of the International Free and Accepted Modern Masons, in order of the Eastern Stars. She was a member of Mary Bethune Chapter 107 of Hallandale and served as treasurer. Cookie was very family oriented and was also devoted to her children, grand children, and God children, who kept her young in life and love. She also en joyed shopping, cooking, and traveling. Her travels included several US states and international destinations. Her favorite place to travel was Hawaii. She leaves to cherish her loving husband, Vernell Jones, 3 children; Keith (Melissa) Johnkins, Damion Johnkins, and Zavaris (Nicole) Jackson; 8 grand children; Khambrea Johnkins, Miyoshi Johnkins, Skye Johnkins, Summer Johnkins, Zion Jackson, Isaiah Johnkins, Lauryn Jackson, and Bobby Jack son, 4 sisters; Della (Edward) Jackson Duncan, Lenora (Pastor Donald) Jack son Miller, Gloria (John) Jackson Johnson, and Iradell Jackson, 1 brother, Robert (Joanne) Fullwood, 2 Aunts; Lottie Mae Jackson Smith and Louise Cummings, 4 Uncles; Pete Butler, Willie “Willie C” Sr. (Mary Helen Jackson), Roosevelt Cummings, and Patrick (Pamela) Wrease, sisters in-law; Mary Ann (Monola) Diaz, Rubena Edwards and Gladys Wells, 5 brother in laws; George Jones Jr, James Jones, Cleveland Jones, Charles Jones, and Jeffery Jones., and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
