Renee Desrosiers Fequiere, age 92, passed away at home peacefully in her sleep on April 18,
2024 surrounded by her caregivers and loving family. Born on July 24, 1931 in Port-au Prince,
Haiti as the fourth child to her parents the late Etienne Prophete and Francine Blain Prophete, she
was named Anne Marie Madeleine Jacqueline Renee, going on to be lovingly known throughout
the years as just “Renee”.
Renee was a very precocious and intelligent child who excelled in academics and was
meritoriously promoted through many courses of study to her early teens. At the age of 14,
Renee had a strong desire to study to become a nurse, but because of her young age she had to
choose from other areas of interest. This turn of events led to her going on to study at L’ecole
Elie Dubois, a school for girls in Port au Prince .
At Elie Dubois, she engaged her artistic nature where she studied sewing, embroidery and the
culinary arts, eventually being selected to enter the Teachers’ Training program. Finding her
passion in teaching, Renee went on to graduate with honors, and enjoyed many contributory
years teaching at L’ecole National de Meyotte.
In 1953, Renee married Menes Desrosiers, originally from Jacmel, Haiti with whom she had
three children Marie-Carole Desrosiers, Marie-France Desrosiers and Michael Desrosiers.
Seeking new opportunities, she moved to the United States in 1967 to join her oldest brother Dr.
Edner Prophete and his family who lived in Brooklyn, New York. Studying English upon her
arrival, and becoming immersed in her new environment, Renee one year later brought her
husband and two children to New York to live with her in Crown Heights, Brooklyn.
In the years to follow, Renee began working for Citibank as a Keypunch Machine Clerk, then
moving up in later years to the Accounts Payable Voucher Department. After her son Michael
was born in Brooklyn, Renee moved to Queens, New York, where she lived with her three
children until the death of her husband in 1981.
As a widow, Renee continued to raise her children as a single mother until she married her
second husband Andre Fequiere who himself was a widow with two teenage daughters, Shirley,
and Magaly and two grown sons Alphonso and Ernst.
Andre and Renee enjoyed many happy years while living in Baldwin, New York. Being actively
involved in the Springfield Gardens Church of the Nazarene, Renee served as a Sunday School
teacher and Andre served on the Usher Board. Renee eventually retired after an accomplished
career at Citibank and Andre retired years later.
After Andre’s retirement, they moved to Pembroke Pines, Florida where they became members
of the Haitian Missionary Baptist Church in Miramar, Florida. They enjoyed traveling to many
distinct parts of the world together until Andre made his transition in 2014.
Renee lived a life filled with compassion, warmth, and unwavering love. Throughout her life,
Renee touched the hearts of everyone she met with her kindness and generosity. Whether
through her infectious laughter, her comforting embrace, or her words of wisdom and
encouragement, she left a Lasting Impact on All who knew her. She enjoyed participating in
various activities at Century Village where she lived, in addition to fellowshipping with friends
at Oasis Church in Pembroke, Pines. She will be fondly remembered for her kindness and her
laughter, and deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Renee is survived by her daughter Marie-Carole Desrosiers Richardson (Willie Richardson), her
