OBITUARY

With grateful hearts, we celebrate the extraordinary life of Paula Jules Fils-Aime, whose 85 years were dedicated to serving others with unwavering love, faith, and compassion.

A Heart Born to Serve

Born in the mountains of Grison Garde, Haiti, to Jacques and Jaccilia Fils-Aime, Paula demonstrated remarkable compassion from childhood. When her mother adopted Henri Fils-Aime, Paula learned that family is built on love, not just blood—a lesson that shaped her entire life.

Journey to America

Paula's courage led her from Haiti to Brooklyn, where she served as a Registered Nurse in pediatrics, caring for the most vulnerable patients. Her gentle hands and compassionate heart made her beloved among families and colleagues alike.

The Heart of a Community

For over five decades in Miami, Paula's businesses became lifelines for her community. Her store, "PJ's," was legendary—not just for commerce, but as a place
where struggling customers received grace, new immigrants found guidance, and anyone could receive wise counsel or prayer. Paula knew every customer by name and never demanded payment from those facing hardship.

Bridge Between Two Worlds

Paula maintained a vital connection to Haiti for decades, sending aid and resources across the waters. When medical supplies were scarce, her innovative spirit created IV solutions from Coca-Cola bottles, ensuring the poorest patients received life-
saving care. Her Miami home welcomed countless new immigrants, helping them build new lives in America.

A Living Legacy

Paula was a true partner to her husband Joseph Roger Civil for over 40 years. To her five children—Jose, Martine, Carine, Carla, and Maureen—she taught that success isn't measured by what you accumulate, but by what you give away. To her 20 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchild, she was "Gunny"—always ready with wisdom and unconditional love.

To Miami's Haitian community, Paula was their "poto mitan"—the central pillar supporting countless lives and dreams.

Paula's life embodied Proverbs 31:20:

"She opens her hand to the poor and reaches out her hands to the needy."
Rest in Peace, Rise in Glory
A life of extraordinary love and service
