A kind and intelligent colleague, much too young, much too spirited to leave us. Marie will be missed by those who knew her well and those, like me, who wanted to know her better.

Marie Smith taught me how to reach calm in a whirlwind, i will forever be thankful for that gem and the sage advice she so generously shared with me and countless others.

Marie, when I read my email from our UTO president I could not believe it. I remember how hard you worked for UTO and how much the sorority meant to you. I enjoyed our times we worked on various projects. I will never forget those times and never forget you. Rest easy my sister and keep smiling. When I get down I will think of you and your beautiful smile. That smile always light up the room. Keep smiling down on UTO. You forever in our hearts. Soror Liz

The most encouraging and significant words that ever came my way were from Marie: "Thank God for Enrique", she said. I had needed to hear that in a way she did not know about.

Words will never be enough to describe the pain of losing Marie. She was an incredible human being who cared deeply about others. I am grateful to have known her. She was was my guardian angel. I had the pleasure of meeting Marie many years ago at the Congressional Black Caucus Caucus Foundation. We remained friends through our mutual sister, and she was a kind, beautiful, smart , and wonderful friend! My sincerest condolences and blessings to Hendrith, Ryan, BJ, the grands, her entire family, and all who loved our dear friend!

It is surreal to me that Marie is no longer here. But my heart and prayers will continue to be with Hendrith, BJ, Ryan and their grandchildren.
