OBITUARY Our loving husband, father and grandfather, Junior Theophlus Meadows, affectionately known to his family as “Pop” went home peacefully to be with the Lord on Friday, July 23, 2021. He was born in Nassau, Bahamas on February 4, 1938 to a caring mother, Lovenia Whyly and father, Wilfred Meadows. Junior was a happy, playful daring child, and a very capable student. As a young boy, he was extremely fond of going to see cowboy movies, to the point of being tempted to skip school. He was continually warned not to go to the early movies especially during school time. He mischievously disobeyed these instructions, and as a result ended up many a day with a hot behind. Another of his favorite past times was diving with his buddies off the Potters Cay Dock. Being concerned for his welfare his mom sent him to his uncle on Acklins Island. There he continued his inquisitive behavior and one day as a result of playing with fire he was severely burned on the upper parts of his legs. He was rushed to Nassau where he was hospitalized for more than six months. By the grace of God, he was able to continue a fulfilling life. After completing his high school education, he obtained his first job as a delivery boy for the former Prime Minister of the Bahamas, Lyden Pindling. His family encouraged him to pursue a trade, so he took up woodwork at McDonald’s Carpentry Shop and became a skilled carpenter. Later, his Mom moved to the United States, but he remained in Nassau and went to live with his Aunt Hilda. He was eventually reunited with his mom but never forgot a beautiful, stylish and well-mannered neighbor who lived across the street. This vibrant young lady Vernita, would later become his wife. They moved to Miami, Florida were they started their family and remained together until his passing. They were together for 63 years. Junior was a caring and giving father and friend. His positive, encouraging and optimistic attitude showed throughout his life and was maintained until his final days. Besides being a skilled carpenter, Pop loved music and actually taught himself to play guitar. He inspired his sons to play guitar. He, along with his eldest son became members of a band called MIX UP. Junior was an avid bowler, and was a member of a league. His walk with the Lord was evident as we reflect on the many ministries of which he was a part. He enjoyed teaching and preaching the Lord’s word. He encouraged his children to have a relationship with the Jesus Christ. During his last hospital stay, he experienced a cardiac emergency and after being revived he recounted his experience of death, in which he was told he had to go back to pray for and thank his wife and speak a blessing over his children and grandchildren. He was jubilant in knowing that he had a home in glory! We rejoice to know that he is with Jesus. He will be greatly missed! Junior was preceded in death by his father Wilfred, loving mother Lovenia “Mama Ella”, Aunt Hilda, his grandson Sammy, and cousins Sharine and Janet who he called sister.
